Around the Town: June / July 2010
Posted by Laura Nelson on June 21, 2010
Welcome to our big summer fun issue! There are hundreds of ideas for family activities in the following pages. Whether you’re enjoying concerts at Cantigny, taking a ride on an old-time train at the Illinois Railway Museum, or playing paintball, make the most of summer–it goes by so fast!
Happy Father’s Day to all the hard-working dads… see gifts for your guy in our Dad’s Day gift guide on pages 28 and 29. Great buys are plentiful at local shops.
It’s time to move forward with Summer Home Improvement projects. One of the best investments to make with your cash, kitchen and bath upgrades can be done at bargain rates by many contractors. Adding insulation or a whole house fan will bring energy savings right away. See pages 13-20.
Get serious about the health of your mouth and gums. If you have gum or periodontal issues, adding antioxidant supplements can make a dramatic improvement. (I’ve got first-hand experience with gum problems, and endorse the radical change antioxidants can make in restoring gum health.) See Dr. Martens’ article on page 31.
Our contest winners this month are enjoying visits to Naper Settlement, Chicago’s Museum of Science & Industry, Allstate Arena to see Andre Rieu, Domo 77, Historic Volo Antique Auto Museum and more. We’ll have another random drawing for complimentary tickets next month. Call (630) 682-5958 by July 10 and leave your name, phone number and home town. You may also enter by sending the same info to contest@nelsonstoday.com.
We’ve got tickets for the Wiggles, coming to Rosemont Theater August 28. If you’ve got little ones and would like to go, call right away and leave your name and phone.
June is a big month for the Nelsons. I’m traveling to Charlotte to celebrate the 1-year birthday of First Granddaughter Lila Ruth. My twins Jack & Jennifer also share that birthday. Daughter Jennifer graduates from DePaul University with her Masters in Flute Performance this month too. Go Flutes!
Our next issue will be August–featuring Top Students.
