When you’re in the Charlotte, North Carolina, area this summer, get back to nature for a day at the U.S. National Whitewater Center.  Located about 20 minutes from downtown Charlotte at historic Tuckaseegee Ford Park, the Center is a U.S. Olympic Training Site, open to the public.

The park offers a full menu of fun outdoor activities: whitewater rafting and kayaking, mountain biking, climbing, ziplining, and hiking.

The star attraction is the largest man made recirculating river in the world. It features the thrill of surging waves and tight turns in the competition channel. Rafters and kayakers are challenged with non-stop class II-IV whitewater rapids.

Adventure Rafting is the most popular trip offered. While no prior experience is required, the rafting experience is a wild trip down all the whitewater channels at the USNWC. Be prepared to get soaked.

Nat. Whitewater, kayakFamily Rafting is geared toward younger participants and those looking for a less wild ride. It’s an exhilarating whitewater experience with all the thrills associated with the sport.

The Trail System rises 70 feet above the river and covers 307 acres. The fourteen miles of trails offer an ideal location for a cardio workout or casual stroll, while taking in fantastic views of the Catawba River and Long Creek. Bicycles and helmets are available for day rentals.

A Climbing Center, four 1,123 foot long Zip Lines, Outfitter’s Store and Restaurant round out the attractions. Some activities have age and weight requirements.
