Around the Town: August 2009
Posted by Laura Nelson on August 1, 2009
We’re proud to present in this issue our 17th edition of Top Students! Twenty-eight students from high schools in the West Suburbs have been nominated to represent their schools in Nelson’s Today as a sampling of the brightest in the Class of 2010. We think you’ll enjoy reading about these young people… and you’ll have a similar impression as we do, that the future is in good hands.
Of course, there are many future leaders throughout these classes with potential yet to be realized. If your favorite student is not yet recognized, rest easy, as their skills and talents will emerge in time.

Farmers Markets are in top form throughout the area, with produce at the peak of freshness. This is the Windy Acres stand at the Glen Ellyn Farmers Market. See Page 25 for a market schedule for Wheaton, Glen Ellyn, Lisle, Warrenville, Batavia, Geneva, Lombard, Villa Park and more.
Nominating forms were sent to nineteen area high schools in April. If your school is not represented, please contact the principal’s office.
Incidentally, if you’re a past top student, or know of one, please send as an email to publicity@nelsons today.com and let us know what you are doing presently.
Local Festivals, family events and summer getaways continue through August, with fun things do to close to home before school begins. Take a scenic drive along Michigan’s coast, to sample great food and wine, recommended by Sally Zarafonetis at GreatFoodandTravel.com. Or enjoy a One Tank Getaway at Starved Rock Lodge to see the breathtaking canyons and waterfalls just an hour away…
If you’re staying in town, be sure to take in Warrenville’s Summer Daze Festival Friday and Saturday, August 7 and 8, at the corner of Butterfield and Batavia Rds. Details available at www.warrenville chamber.com or (630) 393-9080.
Tax credits and big savings are being promoted by remodelers on energy-saving projects. Think about upgrading your windows and call Durabuilt at (630) 495-4200. See Page 27.
