BrightStar Healthcare Offers Local Caregivers Providing Service for All Ages & Skills Required

Will the caregiver be there on time when it snows? “That’s one of the first questions asked by people who are arranging home care services for loved ones,” says Jim Flickinger, owner of local BrightStar Healthcare of DuPage-Wheaton.

Flickinger, along with his wife Judy, a registered nurse, operate the Wheaton-based home care and skilled medical agency to help local families provide care for loved ones of all ages.
“Of course, the quality of care is the greatest concern,” Flickinger says. All caregivers are carefully screened and given extensive background, drug, and reference checks as well as competency/skills tests. About one in ten applicants meet the exacting pre-employment qualifications required to be considered, says Flickinger, to provide their “over the top” service. “The fact that we are nearby locally and many of our caregivers are as well is a big plus to our clients. Most of our clients are within a 10 minute drive of our office in Wheaton.”
BrightStar offers a wide variety of home care and skilled medical services, which allow people to remain in their own homes. Senior assistance can include help with bathing and personal hygiene, meal preparation, transportation for doctor appointments, medication set-ups and reminders, help with the Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and much more.
Besides senior care, BrightStar offers pediatrics assistance, companionship care, live-in caregivers, in-home blood draws and injections, errands and other personal services. Ongoing education is given to field staff members, such as the recent Fall Prevention training. Among older adults, falls are a leading cause of medical problems. The field staff has been trained to recognize these risks and provide the necessary response.
BrightStar caregivers are hired locally, and work under local supervision by a company that is locally owned. Flickinger also offers “live” client support, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. “There is always a real person answering the phone who can help,” he says.
