It’s Our Earth Shows How to Build a Zero Waste Lunch
Posted by Laura Nelson on September 5, 2009
A “Zero Waste Lunch” is a lunch that generates no (or very little) trash. In a zero waste lunch everything can be eaten, reused, or recycled. Rich Rahn, owner of It’s Our Earth in downtown Wheaton, is a master in recycling. He has many suggestions to ease the burden we’re putting on our planet. Rahn says we can reduce the mountains of trash that schools deal with every day by following these tips:
– Use a reusable insulated bag or lunch box instead of pager bags
– Use reusable plastic containers rather than sandwich bags for sandwiches and snacks
– Use a thermos instead of a bottle of soda or juice box
– Use metal silverware or wash plastic utensils and reuse them
– Use cloth napkins instead of paper napkins
The “Laptop Lunch System” is designed to meet zero waste goals. The colorful plastic containers are kid-sized and mom-friendly. Carrying cases keep everything intact, are easy to tote, are good for the environment, and save money by reuse.
The Laptop Lunch System is available at It’s Our Earth, 127 N. Main St., Wheaton. (630) 668-3800
